Volunteering
Our volunteers make an invaluable contribution to so many aspects of CDRS.
Whatever your interest and ability, we will always try to find some way in which you can contribute to the wellbeing of the dogs and assist with the day-to-day work of the Rescue Centre.
How you can help
Volunteers not only support us and meet some of the rescue dogs, there are also opportunities to meet like-minded people.
Two of the most popular activities for which we request help throughout most of the year are dog walking and gardening.
We also welcome offers of help, when required, for:
- Our Open Days, Dog Shows & other events - tasks can range from help with setting up, running a stall, serving refreshments and car parking duties
- Supermarket collections
- Larger, on -site projects such as path laying and painting
Please contact us by phone or email if you would like to offer help in any capacity, or if you have other skills which you think could be of benefit to us.
Dog Walking
Our volunteer dog walkers play a vital role in every dog’s rescue journey, be it through cuddling a puppy, helping an anxious dog become more confident or just taking a dog for a good walk!
There are currently limited opportunities for volunteer dog walking, but we can still accept applications.
- You must be a minimum of 18 years old to apply for volunteer dog walking. Any accompanying persons must also be at least 18 years old.
- Volunteer dog walking is carried out during our normal opening hours, which are 10.30am to 2pm, six days a week. We are closed to the public on Wednesdays.
- You can offer to walk as frequently or infrequently as you would like to. However, we ask that you call us from 9am on the day you would like to walk to check availability of suitable dogs. We apologise in advance if we politely decline your offer on any given day.
Ground Force
Our team of green-fingered volunteers, known as the Ground Force team, help keep the Rescue Centre grounds looking their best.
They usually meet on the first Saturday of every month and some Wednesdays by prior arrangement.
Tasks include planting flowers and bulbs, weeding and spreading bark chippings. No experience needed, just enthusiasm!
Corporate Volunteering Days
PLEASE NOTE THAT WE ARE CURRENTLY UNABLE TO ACCEPT GROUPS OF VOLUNTEERS AS PART OF CORPORATE DAYS.
Work Experience & Duke of Edinburgh
We regret we are not currently in a position to accept work experience or Duke of Edinburgh students and apologise for any disappoint this may cause.
Donations
Without donations from the public we could not ensure the continued work of Chilterns Dog Rescue Society. If you are able to donate any amount it would be greatly appreciated - even if it is as little as £10. The money you give will help us to save the lives of dogs with nowhere else to turn to.
Through our partnership with CAFonline, a leading donation processing agency, you can now donate online over a secure connection. Just click on the DONATE button below. Please remember to indicate if you are a UK taxpayer, as we will receive an extra 25p from the Government for every £1 donated under the Gift Aid scheme. Pledging your gift online is the most efficient way to support Chilterns Dog Rescue Society as it saves us time and money, and is quick and easy for you too.

🐾 Adventure day for Abi & Tibby! 🐾
Today these two rescue superstars enjoyed exploring a brand-new walking spot, complete with a little paddle to cool their paws! 🐶
One of the highlights of our walk was seeing them achieve some fantastic recall while surrounded by lots of exciting distractions. New scents, water, wildlife, and unfamiliar surroundings can all make it much harder for dogs to focus but this is exactly why we practise.
Training around real-life distractions helps build reliability and confidence. A reliable recall isn't just a great trick; it's an essential safety skill that can give your dog more freedom while helping to keep them safe.
We're so proud of how far they have come! ❤️🐾
